Keeping on the theme of touristy weekends, the lovely Alex came to visit for what we kept referring as “the mother of all weekends.” Friday included birthday celebrations, Saturday the Lincoln Park Zoo, Lincoln Park Conservatory and a Mike Golden and Friends concert and Sunday a day to enjoy Bang Bang Pie (which deserves it’s own post) and book club.
Determined to not let Friday’s fun delay our Saturday plans, we headed out to the zoo, to which I had never been (or remembered having been). Let me just say, you know you are at the zoo with the right people when the three of you can stare at a regal African lion for a solid twenty minutes without saying a word.
We scoured every inch of the zoo seeing every animal from grazing giant giraffes to small squeamish salamanders. I will be the first to admit I am a hard person to go to a zoo, aquarium, shelter or pet store with. Between the anticipation leading up to it, the excitement of being there, bursting with useless animal facts through the entire trip and also soaking in more animal knowledge, I can be a lot to handle. Luckily, I was with two people who were both accepting and encouraging of this embarrassing behavior.
To keep myself from further embarrassment, I’ll leave the pictures to do the rest of the talking.
